Default NL 2-7 single draw hand.

The game is 6-handed 50/100 with 50 ante. You have 5000.

UTG opens to 400, you reraise to 1500 with 8235 (in retrospect the raise is too big I think).

Button pushes for 6000. UTG folds.

You are getting 7300:3500 or just a bit over 2.13:1 on the all-in call.

Is this a call or a fold? Is it close?

What kind odds would make you indifferent to an all-in call here?

It's hard to know without having a clue of button's hand range here. I would fold this against anybody putting in a reasonable fourbet, but if you've been threebetting draws a lot that may change things.

I'm extremely dubious of your reraise, not just the size of it but the fact. You're not getting any value here unless UTG is incredibly awful, and as you can see making a play at the pot UTG+1 can be very dangerous.

Unless the button is a maniac or a moron, I see no reason for your reraise. I think a flat call is an easier line to play here.

With the way the action went, the button can pretty much shove with anything here as your raise allowed/forced him to do, but you can't call.

Is this a tournament? I wouldn't care to comment on a cash game this big but if its a tournament fold to the UTG raise and fold to the push. Any draw is bad if you only have one chance to hit it and you might be drawing dead. Button has a pat 8 or better, easy fold.

Thanks for the comments.

It was my first time to play the game so I really had nfi.

I think you guys are correct about my first reraise being. For some reason I had the idea that this is not a game where you should cold-call with position, and I felt like my hand was good enough to play.

Anyone like a fold rather than a cold-call?

Second as to the push, it felt to me like a fold ought to be standard, so I folded, but the button showed something like 76422. (Making me only a 55/45 dog.)

I certainly wouldn't argue with a fold here. UTG opens tend to be very strong in KCL.

In what situations would you say a 1 card draw to a 9 is playable?

When it's heads up and you can control the pot size, 9s are playable. Remember that playing a 9 and drawing to a 9 are two different things, and that 98s are different than 96s.

The good news: 9s won't get you in as much trouble as 8s.

I'd probably have to go back and dig up Super/System, which might have a chart, to give you an answer for ring play. I've sadly never been able to play ring more than 3-handed, and I'd certainly be opening nine draws on the button and sometimes calling or reraising a button raise with them in that situaiton.

In a tournament, well, it almost never matters what your hand is. KCL's closed nature makes it the ultimate fold equity instructor.
