Default how to calculate needed Imp.Odds for calling PFbet

need help w a basic question please:

just saw a stox video, where he played .50/1 NL

He opened 88 for 3.50 and got raised to 12. blinds fold, so he gets 8.50 to 17; 1 to 2
he called saying for implied set odds it's ok

how do i calculate if i have enough implied odds to spike my set/flush(draw)/...?

Thx

For pp I use a 10:1 implied odds calculation. It is really about 7.5:1 but most players add a bit for the times you lose when you do hit a set.

So in your case, you are paying 8.50 to see a flop. With the 10:1, you need to make an $85 profit this hand. There is already $17 in the pot so you to extract another $68 from villain. To do this, you and villain need to have at least $68 left behind. If either of you has less than that, then the call is likely incorrect. If villain has close to $68, then you need to know if he is likely to risk all his chips on whatever hand he has. It is usually much better if villain has a very deep stack like $300. He would likely part with $68 more easily with this stack than if he had say $70.

This is really one of those questions that if you have to ask, you won't be able to make sense of the answer. Ask yourself these three questions: 1) how much money do I stand to make on average if I hit my hand. 2) how much money do I stand to lose on average if I don't. 3) how likely is it that I'll hit my hand. Your EV is positive if A2 / (A1 + A2) < A3

Also, for all the times you're hit a set and get little or no action.
