Re: Starting Limit Holdem. My first Move?
post in small stakes forum. read SSHE.
read posts by Bob T, Harv, James, Grease, and I. We all play slightly different styles, you can prob pick up a little something from each. Joe Tall knows his stuff too from what I read, he'd prob be a good coach. |

Re: Starting Limit Holdem. My first Move?
as a total aside, man do you ever have to remind yourself that blind defense in NL is nothing like blind defense in L. Haha sometimes when I'm multitabling a bit of both I'll forget which is which and defend NL thinking it's an L table. haha I always wonder what villain thinks when he raises my sb and I min raise. "what the eff does that mean ?"

Re: Starting Limit Holdem. My first Move?
[ QUOTE ]
I like too have a bit of variety, ill keep playing NL tournaments but ill stick with LHE ring games. I think that if you can become good at limit and turn at least 5/100bb an hour with 3 or four tables running i could turn a steady profit and move up limits learning more as i go. Also limits variance in bankroll wont affect me as much as NL since the Limit swings are generally lower. [/ QUOTE ] Not wanting to get people started on brag posts, but I propose that your expectation of 5 BB/100 in Limit is way too high (by a factor of 3 or so). Maybe I'm wrong? |

Re: Starting Limit Holdem. My first Move?
hmm well ill see how i go playing limit at first and how many bb/100 i make. im hoping around the 3-5 range being it too high or not.
Joe: thanks for the offer but i think $200/hr is a bit too steep for me being on a small bankroll etc. Im sure you will help my game by leaps and bounds but i can't afford it right now. |

Re: Starting Limit Holdem. My first Move?
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah the swings in limit are definitely a lot smaller. [/ QUOTE ] Smaller? Relative to blind size perhaps. If you multiply the blind size by a factor of 7 or 8, to be somewhat equal to limit, the swings are probably very close to the same. Of course, for anyone who sizes the bankroll properly the swings are exactly the same. If they aren't then you are not comparing the proper levels of the two games. 5/10 NL and 40/80 limit should be close to the same. |

Re: Starting Limit Holdem. My first Move?
Hmm, some of the NLHE stuff is useful. But if you stick to the NHLE stuff too much, you'll be making two of the big mistakes in Limit: not defending your blinds enough, and making river folds you shouldn't be making. So I find you really have to lose some of the NL habits that cost a limit player a lot of money.
