OOT got it right, Zelda and Mario 3 are clearly the 2 greatest NES games of all time IMO. I predict Zelda in a close one in the finals. Contra and TSB are being overrated here, which is expected given the demographic. My personal favorite game ever has to be TSB.

I voted for Contra because I loved it and used to play it over and over. I never got into Zelda.
With that said, I must say I believe Zelda is probably the better game. It had a lot more going on than Contra. Contra was really easy. Once you knew the Konami code, it was a cake walk. In fact, it was the first video game I ever "beat." Zelda, on the other hand, was revolutionary. I think it was one of the first of its kind, a strategy/adventure/role playing game. It always seemed complex to me. Maybe that's why I didn't want to play it when I was 10. Who knows? All I know is that many people swear by the original Zelda as the greatest game ever. Wasn't it also the first video game that could actually "save" things when you turned the system off?

my dad, who basically never played video games and sucked at almost everything he ever tried to play, stayed up all night playing zelda on many, many nights until he finally beat it.
it was the best NES game ever, especially for it's time.
