I would just raise pre or muck it for sure. Personally looking at who is in the big blind, I would raise.

In a limped pot I would just bet the flop maybe really small or something but I just want to build the pot even in the slightest here.

As played I make it like 48 to go on this river.

In all seriousness tho, it doesn't matter what you do on river because by not betting flop or turn, you have made the pot so small. Just push and pray he calls with J thinking its a chop.

If you are going to play 89s UTG, please raise it up. If the SB still comes along for the ride you are playing hand with great implied odds against a big stack.

As played, you MUST bet this flop. Axd is coming along for the ride, made flushes, two pair combos, sets. AdJ, KdJ, QdJ, and the list probably goes on.

The only way this pot gets bigger is by you putting money in it. And you can't ask for a better flop to bet.

The turn could be a terrible card that potentially loses action for you (flush drawers are going to be more timid about putting a lot of dough if they hit their flush on the river fearing a boat), but you should still be betting it as played. There are still a lot of hands out that might want to play with you.

With the river, I just play optimistic here. You will not get called very often, but I just stick my stack in. Any J is usually calling and of course 77.

Main problem here though is not what to do on this river... the main problem is you got 0 dough into the pot and if you do shove, it could look like 77. By betting the flop, it won't look like 77, making it easier for the villian to call a river shove with Jx.

Bet flop, bet turn, shove river. If he made it to the river with you with a Jack, it's an easier call.

Let's for fun assume he has AdJc and likes to call with such holdings from the blinds to a raise.

You raise UTG with 89s to $2.00 he calls. ~$4.00 pot.

He checks. You bet $3.50, he calls. ~$11 pot.

He checks. You bet ~$10, he raises to $35, you call. $~81 pot.

He leads for $75, you re-raise all-in.

Much, much easier for him to call and even if he folded, you actually made some dough.
