Re: Instant Classics
OK thread hijack -
What about classic songs that never should have been a classic in the first place? I'm thinking in particular about the song Street Fighting Man by the Rolling Stones. This song is on Beggars Banquet, which is hands down the best Stones album. For reasons that escape me, SFM gets more radio air time than any other song on the album AND IT'S THE WORST EFFING SONG OF THE BUNCH! |

To that end I nominate Garth Brooks - Friends in Low Places as a bonafide instant classic. [/ QUOTE ] A bunch of drunks singing along to a song does not make a classic. Love the Carter Family choice btw. And for the love of god, can we get Marvin Gaye off of the "maybe" list and onto the "no doubt about it" list. |

Re: Instant Classics
I'm not sure how much love this will get from people who don't care for the genre, but I'll put in a vote for one of my personal favorites: Foo Fighters - Everlong.

I was pulling wire with a bunch of dudes who listened to all country when that song came out. And I was like, holy crap what is that? I can actually listen to that one. But could be just me. |

Re: Instant Classics
I nominate the Stones' "Brown Sugar" for the irresistible opening riff. (The "yeah ... yeah ... yeah ... WHOOO!" part is just gravy.)
Also, AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long," already mentioned, should get points for the fact that it was always the one hard rock song played at school dances. You know, a way to make the stoners happy -- while keeping everyone else happy as well. And what about "Walk on the Wild Side" by Lou Reed? I don't know anybody who doesn't like that song. |

How can
"Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses not have already been mentioned? The moment that hit the airwaves it was a classic - "sweet child of mine" not so much... but appetite was an instant classic album |
