Default Basic Stud 8 question

You're playing 2-40 live. 3-4 play very well, the rest are loosey-goosey types.

A 2 BI's, mid card folds and you are high on board with (AJ) Kr. The rest of the board is 6, 7, 4 and a J. Your image is tight. What's the best play, raise or fold?

I don't think your opposition even matters. You've got three cards in the play zone behind you, and you've got utter garbage. This is an easy, easy fold.

Default Results

Okay, I guess that was an easy one. I just started playing Stud8. What surprise's me most is I thought the good players had more of an edge in Stud High because the bad players got more splits in H/L.

Never realized how having the second best hand either way punishes them more and the rewards are less when they get lucky because they usually a split.

Against bad players, your edge is greater in stud/8. Against half-decent players, your edge is probably greater in high-only. Stud/8 is a terrible game for chasers, because they're only playing for half the pot, and capped betting rounds are more common than in other limit games. Conversely, high-only stud is probably the best game for chasers.

Which describes every bad stud player. It makes me wonder how, in a span of measuring your results say quarterly, you can be a consistent winner at the game.

Bad players routinely take turns winning huge pots that they have no business in and it keeps them going. Maybe that's why Carlos Chadha started playing holdem.

I agree that in Stud8, those same bad players will be rewarded a hell of a lot less for their ridiculous efforts. I really like Stud8. Can't believe how far off I was in my judgement of the game.
