Registering a domain anonymously?
Hi,
Is it possible to register a domain name anonymously? As in, nobody will ever know who owns the domain? Or perhaps I can give a fake name and address but still pay for it via my real credit card? Thanks |

Re: Registering a domain anonymously?
There are privacy domain registering services, I wouldn't recommend supplying false information along with your credit card.
Try this: https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/dbp/landing.asp |

Re: Registering a domain anonymously?
They offer private registration of domains. How secure is this? Will anyone find out your registration details?

Re: Registering a domain anonymously?
Godaddy has an in house pivacy registrar called domains by proxy. The privacy fee is in addition to the registration fee and toals about 18 bucks a year for both. I am currently looking into another registrar that offers privacy included in the price...5.95 per year, much cheaper, but not sure of the security of it yet.
You can be assured that if you go through godaddy, you private information will be safe IF you also pay for the "privacy" add-on. |

Re: Registering a domain anonymously?
The way I understand it, it's a service for preventing anyone from seeing your personal address, name and phone number for a domain you've registered (which is the case if you don't privatize your domain). It's not going to prevent someone from finding out who you are if you're using the domain to violate the law.

but quite honestly, very few companies are willing to go to bat for their customers, they'll hand over your info in a heartbeat. |

A simple letter from a lawyer to one of the privacy/masking companies and they fork over the private info. They are not much use except for shielding you from spam.
