# November 22 – Mega-satellites to the $2,500 Main Event & Opening night party

[/ QUOTE ]

I was planning to play some sats for this event while I was in HK, but it looks like you've already hit over 200 players with a week to go before it starts. I have a feeling this event will reach maximum sell out. Oh well...

[/ QUOTE ]

They said that they will be holding seats for super sat players.

There are two Mega-Satellites scheduled for Thursday November 22. We will hold 10 seats for each.

Notice for all: Save yourself some headaches by downloading this document and printing out page 17. Most taxi drivers here do not know where the Grand Waldo on the Cotai Strip is (and the Chinese name sounds substantially different than its English name) and that print-out will help them understand where you want to go (far easier than speaking slower and louder hoping that gets the message across).

[/ QUOTE ]

There is a minor error on Page 17 of that document.

(Likely a cut and paste error from the previous Chinese sentence on Page 15 directing the taxi driver to the Sheung Wan Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal.)

Specifically, the 4th Chinese character (from the left) of the sentence (SHEUNG in Cantonese) on Page 17 should be crossed out so that the sentence should only have 7 characters total.

Once corrected, the sentence translates into English as shown in the document.

--

The Grand Waldo Hotel's Chinese name in Cantonese sounds like this:

GUM DOH JOUT DEEM

Many taxi drivers in Macau do NOT understand English so one should always have destinations written down in Chinese before boarding a Taxi.

Oh yeah

Macau taxi drivers are the worst in the world when it comes to taking the scenic route, so prepare to be tarped. Probably will take you around HKD 50 or so from the ferry terminal whereas the direct route would be $30 or so.

And, never ever go to local restaurants recommended by taxi drivers. They get a kickback from recommending overpriced crappy restaurants.

That doesn't make Macau cab drivers too different from Las Vegas cab drivers, who are also notorious for taking "scenic" routes if you appear to be easy prey.

Unfortunately for westerners, ripping off gweilo is considered to be a "sport" among some Chinese people, including some Macau cab drivers.

That's why I recommend hotel-operated shuttle buses whenever possible.

For most players, taxis in Macau are unavoidable because...

...Galaxy Grand Waldo's shuttle bus to the Macau ferry terminal doesn't start running until 10am in the morning.

Many players will have to be at the Macau ferry terminal by 7am to catch the 8:15am ferry to Hong Kong Int'l Airport in order to make their return flight at 12noon. (The 10am ferry is too late for people who need to catch flights leaving HKIA before 1pm.) We are stuck with having to hire a taxi when we leave the hotel at the end of our stay.

I assume there is no reason to get a ferry ticket before I arrive in Hong Kong, correct?

<font color="red">VERY Important Information</font> regarding Foreign Currency Exchange in the Grand Waldo Casino and generally in Macau:

- Make sure to print-out Page #17 and bring it with you as most taxi drivers here don't know where the Grand Waldo is unless you give them directions in Chinese. <font color="red"> </font>

It is highly recommended that you book your ferry ticket.
The Ferry's especially in weekends are full and I recomend you to book early to save disapointment or hassle of waiting round for ever.
