Bet sizing help
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t50 (5 handed) Poker Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)
UTG (t2250) Hero (t1555) Button (t2155) SB (t1730) BB (t1310) Preflop: Hero is MP with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 1 fold, Hero raises to t150, 2 folds, BB calls t100. Flop: (t325) 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) BB checks, Hero bets t300, BB folds. Final Pot: t325 My problem here is this: If villian correctly puts me on a cbet, and raises, I'm in big trouble for the rest of the sng. If I bet less, I feel I may be running the risk of losing this pot. This hand was the 2nd hand into the tourney, so I have no numbers/reads yet. Any advice? |

Re: Bet sizing help
in a cash game that size is good but i think in a sit and go you can bet anywhere down to half the pot size and its ok

Re: Bet sizing help
You played it OK. Maybe a 200 continuation bet does the same job. Yes if villain puts you on a C bet he may well come over the top and you have a decision to make. Nobody said poker is easy.

Re: Bet sizing help
Yeah make it less, nearly all the time villian is coming over the top here he has a hand, and when he doesnt he is nearly always folding to a c-bet.
Betting less you save yourself some chips when he does have a hand (and u fold to re-raise) and wont really affect his fold rate to a c-bet when he doesn't.. |

Re: Bet sizing help
It depends on the villains.
If they are observing, then you need to c-bet hands you miss, check hands you miss, bet hands you hit and check hands you hit. My c-bet sizing generally follows this pattern. If the board is dry and I am heads up, I bet less. If the board is wet, and/or I am up against two opponents, I bet more. This of course also applies to my value bets as well. And as a poker player, you need to recognize players who are floating. This means firing a second cbet on the turn. Notice that the bet on the turn and your overall cost for the hand is less if your flop bet was less. |

Re: Bet sizing help
Generally your average player will respond identically to a T200 and T300 bet in this situation (if he's going to call, he's going to call).
In spots like this, where the stack is finite and not that deep, I tend to use slightly smaller bets in all spots that are not all-ins. ie: If I feel I should bet anywhere from 70-90% of the pot, I'll consistently bet 70-75%. I don't want to play a big pot unnecessarily, and stacks are shallow enough that I can get all in later in the hand if I so desire. |
