I will be in Chicago in a couple weeks, staying downtown, for work. No car. I'm pretty much SOL regarding poker huh?

[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, no. You can take the Red Line to the Chinatown stop and catch a bus to Majestic and possibly Resorts. If you like limit, you can catch the Metra to Aurora and play at Hollywood.

Does anyone know anything about the possibility of horseshoe getting a poker room? Any specifics such as dates, games to be spread, tournaments to be offered would be great.

One casino in Chicago, two in the suburbs.

Exact same proposal in Boston. I'm sure all these pols will have nice comfy jobs in the casino industry when they retire.

I thought the Mass idea was to spread them around the state. One in Western Mass, one in Northern to get NH, and one South of Boston to draw RI.

Or in other words. Foxwoods would lose 1/3 of their clients.

OK, I guess I'm used to thinking of anything west of Newton as the suburbs. They are talking about one in metropolitan Boston though. Probably one near Springfield. Not sure about the third.

But one of the things they've been saying is people will fly in from other parts of the country to gamble here. But if they are pushing the same plan in Chi town and lord knows where else, that's increasingly unlikely.

More poverty, more crime, and your daughters growing up to be prostitutes. I'll stick to home games, thanks.

The problem in Illinois is that the current law limits the number of "gaming positions" that a casino can have. The law doesn't differentiate between a slot machine, a table-game seat, or a seat in a poker room. So most casinos choose to install 10 slot machines instead of one poker table. They'll shut down some slots and allow poker during periods when the slot traffic is light, but they view the slots as being more profitable on weekends.

The proposal currently working its way through the legislature includes an increase in the number of positions each casino can have. (I've heard the increase described as "dramatic", but don't know how large it really is.) Hopefully, some casinos will choose to allocate a chunk of those new positions to poker rooms; but most will probably go the lazy route and just add more slots.

At one point, there was a proposal, backed by the horse industry, that wanted to expand gaming by allowing slots and poker at Illinois horse tracks (similar to Iowa's racinos). Unfortunately, that's fallen by the wayside for now.

Man that would be awsome. I would have a poker room 15 minutes from me.

Look on the bright side. If MAss builds casinos then NH doesn't have to put up with all of that.

Horseshoe's new boat called the building on water will be ready for the summer of 2008. There will be an 30 plus table poker room.
