Re: Boston Celtics \'07-\'08 Banner 17 Thread
I went to the Knicks/Celtics game, no need to talk about how much NY sucks or how awesome KG/Allen/Pierce are. Here are my other thoughts:
Rondo's jumper is clearly better. Inconsistent, maybe, but he started off the game making several consecutive shots, all looked good. If he's comfortable and confident with shooting, this team gets a lot scarier. Perk is good for being open under the basket and dunking. Fortunatly that happens quite frequently with this team. I would watch a pick and know for sure that a pass to Perk was coming and BOOM! there it was. Hard to defend. Big Baby is awesome. However, he really, really needs to learn to finish with some authority. He kept getting the ball down low, often on a great offensive rebound, but then couldn't go up strong and dunk it in. He's a decent FT shooter (had a bad game), but he's gotta get the And1 or the free bucket sometimes. Someone his size should be able to just "throw it down, big man". Powe should never have the ball on offense, he can't post someone up without losing his dribble. He did make a jumper though. Scalibrine should never get minutes. Pruit looked alright, took a few jumpers that looked like he was just trying to throw up a shot and he didn't really square himself. If he settles down a bit and cane make that shot consistently he might be useful, but Eddie House is much, much better at this point in time. Pruit is a pretty good athlete though. I'm very happy with our draft, given that both players came out of the second round. |

Btw, absolutely best moment of the night was in the fourth when Scal is trying to run a fast break 3 on 2 and he's gunning down the court, then makes this psuedo no-look pass to someone (maybe big baby), and just barrels through a defender. They show a reply on the Big Screen in super slow mo, and then the camera pans to Ray Allen on the bench laughing at the reply. He sees himself on the big screen and immediatly stops laughing. Hilarious.

His form is improved. David Thorpe from ESPN and basketball trainer extraordinaire:
"Everything is different. His balance is better. His follow-through looks great. He is using the same mechanics on each shot. The pregame shot I saw looked the same as what he did in the game -- a sign that he now "owns" his new form." |

Do Rondo's mechanics look better this year, or is it just that he's making more of them because no one is guarding him? -McGee |
