I need to bitch... I didn\'t get an internship I applied for
3.5 GPA (3.75 counting CC)
3.66 GPA in Polisci Officer for Habitat for Humanity (one of the largest groups here) 3.5 years of work experience at Subway 1 summer as an intern with a baseball league 1 good letter of rec, 1 bad (non-academic though) 26 applicants, 8 positions. I really don't know how there were 8 people better than me. I guess I should be a minority. This is academic BBV right?

The 8 winners probably did 4+ years at quiznos.
Seriously though you never know what they were looking for. They might need a certain # of minorities, females etc. Some people might also have connections that you don't. Your numbers seem competitive but far away from a shoe-in. How are your interview skills?

a bad letter of rec probably hurt a lot. how did you know it was bad?
oh and for a congressional internship, your numbers are probably standard or low. I have no idea for sure, but I imagine there are a lot of 4.0 poliwanker types applying for spots like these. I really wouldn't be at all surprised if the bad letter of recommendation did you in. Good letters of rec rarely help, as nearly all have them, but bad ones sure can hurt.

Well, I shouldn't say it was bad. It was just from an ex-employer.
I wrote the letter, by his consent, and he signed it. It was well written and truthful... it's just, he was a manager at Subway. That's not some powerful position of community leader. I think Thremp is right. The pool of applicants was probably very, very strong. If my entire school applied, it'd be in the top 15%... but maybe only the top half of the actual applicants. My interview skills are great. I am very personable, and normal looking. I dressed well and all (suit, nice tie, etc). I've always been told that when I want to I seem very confident and professional. I had to do a mock interview for my career planning class (easiest. class. ever.) and the lady at the career center said I didn't need to practice, etc.

also, none of your work experience has anything to do or is realted to the internship you applied for.. nice gpa though

I read his name, I see yours and vice versa. And whoever said about the "top school" or whatever... the entire applicant pool was from the U of M. Also, I am probably one of the few people actually from his district.
