Do you guys really shove this early in a SNG? Even with 30BBs?

I kinda like the way he played it, I think he got more value out of it because the player had so many chips and was willing to call a reraise, but not a shove.

Do you shove because it is a safer play? Usually resulting in a fold, but if he calls then you get full value if you are ahead?

edit: I jsut plugged this into SNGwiz, and it says to fold this readless. They would have to be raising like 50% of all pots, and calling 30% to be a shove.

Shoving 30BBs over a raise is much different than just open shoving 30BBs. With a reraise preflop what is his move if he misses the flop? A cbet is enormous, and check folding a massive pot doesn't sound to great either. I'm guessing you didn't do SNGWiz right.

IMO Shoving>Calling>Folding>Raising (maybe raising is better than folding)

I like a read before I do this - folding isn't that bad - and in any case I think 800 pre is the worst of the options. Either shove or 1200/go and go/call shove are better than this, or even call and take a flop (I don't like this so much OOP 3 way though). By making it 800 you give him odds to call and get a good flop before deciding to commit, and c-betting to fold to a raise or 3b pre/fold to shove is very ugly with these stack sizes.

what buy in is this?

i dont love any option in this spot, but shoving is better than making it 800 to go here. You dont garner much FE with this raise size. it also sets the tone of the hand as youre going to call a shove if you make it like 1200. calling is also better than 800 IMO, but calling can be kinda sucky too.
