10/20 Stars. Villian Open Limps from the Button

I played about 3,000 hands today and this stupid one from earlier is still bugging me.

Stars 10/20 6-handed

I post in the Big Blind. Folded to Villain on the Button who limps. This is the first hand I have ever played with the villain but it seemed a bit odd that he limped because in general it is pretty rare from anyone to open-limp on the button 10/20 6-handed and it is more odd because this is my first hand and why not test the new guy.

I have J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and I see the free flop, which is: 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I fire. He calls

The turn is a beautiful J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I check. He bets. I raise. He calls.

River is 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I bet. He raises. What is my play? I can't decide if this is an instant muck or an instant call against a complete unknown on the first hand.

[/ QUOTE ]I would think there is too much chance that he simply folds given he is in the steal position and given he only limped preflop. Plus, my first hand I can implant an image that I am tricky. First images are the strongest.

If I would have led he would have raised though on this hand.

easy bet - 3-bet on the turn... why are you trying to induce bluffs when he has made it clear that he may hold aces? Just fire again and let him value raise a J / AA or make a move.

I call the river all day long without a very good read. He's played his hand in a goofy way, let's make him show the winner.

[/ QUOTE ]At this point in the hand I cannot be sure of it. There are some players that limp weak hands on the button.

But - I think a 3-bet in probably better.

Insta call on the river and mock his over pair. Am I the only person who would feel obligated raise an open limping button with anything just for spite? I don't know how 10/20 players act, but this almost always a weak hand at 5/10 and below.

Easy call on the river, also I like bet-3bet on the turn as well for all sorts of reasons.

When he bets the turn a lot of times he would have raised had we bet. Also he may check through and wouldn't that be a disaster.
