Re: My MMA fight...
[ QUOTE ]
What are the rules if any? What is the environment (parking lot, etc.)? If you have no real live training (fights/competitions) do you really expect your ninja board breaking skillz, if any, to hold up? Why would trying to put on 30+lbs of fat in the next few weeks help anything at all? (PS no matter what your diet composition if you try to make up the weight difference this short term it will be mostly fat) Also damn you're scrawny.... why fight anyone? [/ QUOTE ] "why fight anyone...?" well Ive been doing martial arts for a number of years. And like any martial artist, I wanna see what im made of. I do accept that the majority of my training is focused in technique (forms, light sparring) rather than practical fighting, and thats ok too. But I really like MMA so I wanna give it a shot. as for the ninja boards comment. There is more to martial arts than straight fighting. but ya...it doesnt really help in MMA. Its like an Olympic Taekwondo fighter trying to fight mma, its not gonna work. That said, some skills do transfer over, liking knowing how to throw efficient, powerful kicks and having flexibility. |

Re: My MMA fight...
[ QUOTE ]
alright. i have fought my friends MMA style. we like to 'ufc' each other from time to time. we have the same style gloves (not the actual things) but they work well. we all weigh from 140-210. i fought twice. i fought a friend who i outweighed by like 30 pounds and beat him pretty good. I'm 5'9, 170 fwiw. i got him with a good right hook and then got on top and beat him. then i fought my other friend, who outweighs me by 30. he used to be on the wrestling team. needless to say, i got my ass kicked. he threw me around and pounded my ass into a pulp. i think with a little fighting experience, you can do it. i made a major mistake by going right at him instead of sitting back and sprawling. i have a much better stand up game than him but he nonetheless got a hold of me and beat me down. so, i would suggest #1 getting some cardio in, working out alot. endurance is a huge factor, and fighting is tiring. other than that, i cant really suggest much. [/ QUOTE ] thanks for the helpful reply. And I do have some training, I think i misled everyone to thinking we are both equally untrained. I believe 5'4 115 pound vs 5'11 150 pound is completely doable...not easy by any means, but doable. Again, any suggestions is welcomed, I dont know why people are flaming so much. I might post the video when its done, but I also might not, I dont want to get anyone's hopes up. |

Re: My MMA fight...
These sorts of amateur fights are looked down upon because they're not safe and they reflect poorly on combat sports. I don't have a problem having people sparring when both people have some training experience, but otherwise it's just amateur hour and you're looking to have someone really get hurt.
I also would have less of a problem if you guys were using 16 oz. training gloves, but I'm guessing you'll be using coolio "UFC" 4 oz. gloves. Sigh. |

Re: My MMA fight...
Again, my bad about not posting all the data in OP. I didnt mean to say I had no experience, but I wanna emphasize the fact that sparring and fighting are VERY different.
Ya i wanna post a vid, esp. if people here are helpful. If its a sorry ass fight, im not gonna waste your time, but if its a good one, ill share it with those who gave input. I plan on submitting him. Given his frame, I dont think he could be that much stronger than me. And I think weight is extremely helpful on the ground too, and thats why I want some hahaha. If anyone knows a good way to gain weight, thatd be helpful. |

Re: My MMA fight...
work on your anaerobic cardio, this is probably the most important thing you can do besides going out and sparring hard for 3 weeks

[/ QUOTE ] I will agree with you on some aspects of this. Two people getting into a fight is unsafe. However, Im doing this as probably my last martial arts experience before jumping into business school. Its something fun, and my opponent is a friend. He is going to start doing MMA, so I thought this was a good match. No training is one thing, but its not like im going to go beat up someone for their lack of ability. He has HUGE height and weight advantages over me, he is also in good condition. Plenty of MMA fights have been done in the past to find out whether technique beats muscle. I like martial arts very much, and I don't think I am reflecting badly upon it. sorry if my opening post made you feel that way. Thanks for the post, ill be happy to answer more question or reply to comments if u have them. traz...as for the viagra. I think Ill be wearing a cup. so thats a no go |
