Time Frame we live by???
I have a quick question about the time frame we live by. I am not trying to make any point, but am just curious about this particular subject.
How and when was the time frame we live by created (BC & AD). The entire world goes by this scale, thus I was wondering when it was created. We live by a time frame that is based on the exact day Jesus was born, if I am correct. What about before Jesus. Did they have a clue of what date it was, or was that just not part of their lives back then? Was it just not in their scope of reasoning of what date it was or how old they were? So at what point in history was our time frame created? At what point did the entire world decide that, "It is the year ??? AD, and thus I am "so and so" years old." Modern Civilation has seemed to adopt this particular time frame, so the question is how, when, and by whom was it created?? Also, how and when did it spread across the world of what year it was, and to live by this scale??? |

Re: Time Frame we live by???
Check this site out it lists several calendars:
http://webexhibits.org/calendars/cal...christian.html Some of the current holidays in the Julian calendar we are currently using today are religious holidays on that date because of the decree of some ancient Pope...For example December 25 which is Christmas is not the actual birth date of Jesus Christ, but early in the days of Christianity they set this date as his birthday to coincide with an important earlier pagan festival... |

Did they have a clue of what date it was [..]? [/ QUOTE ] It may help you to realize that the 'date' we have today is 100% relative. Our species is hundreds of thousands of years old. Thus any kind of other relative system is just as valid for use. |

I actually was trying to avoid being insular on my post in this thread...I was just sharing the little bit of knowledge I had regarding the current calendar in use in the U.S....But people do like to attack on very little provocation in some threads...especially on the Internet...

[/ QUOTE ] Well thank you for not being blinkered in your previous post.... I was being narrow-minded about the entire world using AD/BC, but I was just asking a question on when and where these exact dates came about, that was all I was asking, or that was my intent??? |

Re: Time Frame we live by???
I belive the main calendar we use today is the Julian Calendar...developed by Julius Caesar...not sure all the ways they've monkeyed around with the calendar since Caesar though but I know that an early pope had something to do with setting religious holiday dates...
