Rubix Cube enthusiasts? I need an algorithm

when the first 2 layers are completely solved except for pieces 5 and 6 which are switched

holding the cube so that red is the front face and white is the up face: I've tried Fi U Li Ui but that messes up other stuff.

you do realize that "pieces" 5 and 6 in that diagram is just one piece, right?

if you're describing what I think you're describing, then it's trivial to fix provided that you know a bit about what you are doing (and by this I mean that if you know enough to get to the stage you're already at, then you know enough to fix it) - move an irrelevant piece into that position, and then move that piece back in there but make sure it's aligned correctly this time

I don't know how to annotate it but I can do it in my head in 15 twists

If this is the last piece in the middle layer, then I'm pretty sure there's no way around bringing it down and up again.

If you plan ahead a little then you should be able to avoid this situation, though.

There's some algorithms where you have an empty slot either diagonally or adjacent here (look under expert F2L empty slots)

imagine the piece that needed to be there was between the numbers 4 and 3 on the diagram. then you'd know how to do to that right? so just do that then put the correct piece back in.

I think I see what you're saying but I'm not sure if it would mess up the other stuff. and I dont know how to "set it up" other than by it happening on its own.
