Fantasy football rules/ethics question

A situation arose in one of my leagues where two managers were trying to make a "one-week" trade. They made what the league agreed was a reasonable trade in terms of fairness, and then the next week, they wanted to trade back. The comissioner of the league didn't like that at all, and refused to let the trade go through.

My initial reaction was a big WTF because my attitude was that as long as managers aren't deliberately making lopsided trades, then all trades should be valid. But I can also see the other side of the argument, where temporary trades could allow managers to ease the blow of injuries or bye weeks.

I'm wondering if anyone here has had to deal with this situation before, or has any reasoning about what the rule should be on temporary trades.

I see no issue. This sort of thing is starting to happen in all kinds of leagues, most notebly the nhl. The reasons for a trade taking place are vast. If getting over an injury or a bye is one of them, so be it. That's not collusion, that's business.

I think it's cheesy personally, but it's an interesting point for debate. I think trading back if you're unsatisfied is one thing, deliberately planning a 1-week trade is sort of... lame.

check out what St Louis and Atlanta did with Keith Tkachuk. It's a trade completed geared towards sending him back after the playoff run.

so long as it's helping both teams and the tradeback isn't enforceable, then I'm okay with it.

For instance, if one of the players gets hurt this week, then one of the owners is up shitcreek.

I detest the practice because it really eliminates bye week problems

The money league that I'm in has a 4 week rule. If you make a trade you have to keep the players you traded for on your roster for at least 4 weeks. This stops people from trading players every week for injury/bye week problems.

I wouldn't really have a problem with this. Both players are trying to improve their team and it's within the rules. I'm assuming the trade is roughly equal value, and if someone is sending over a better player they risk not getting him back too.

I'm shocked that a lot of people seem to be ok with this. Every fantasy league I've ever been in has had some type of a 'team cannot own the same guy twice in the same season' rule. I think allowing these types of trades comprimises the integrity of the league a little bit.
