Starting out tips
Just started golfing last fallish, just golfed my first sub-100 round. What's the fastest way to improve? What are the most important things I can learn, etc?

Re: Starting out tips
Short game!!! Look at your last few rounds and see what your score would have been if when you were inside 80 yards you never took more than 3 shots and got up and down 1/3 of the time. One can be a total hack and consistently shoot in the 80s by pitching and putting well. Keep it as simple as possible too. Good luck!!!

Re: Starting out tips
Take a lesson(s) and spend time on the driving range.
If you wait too long to take a lesson the bad habits you develop will be harder to break. A good lesson(s) will get you focused on what a better swing feels like and should leave you with a set of practice drills. You might want to ask around when looking for a good instructor. As for scoring - you may want to focus on course management for your skill level. Jack Nicklaus was one of the best. |

I used to play at a relativly short cow pasture with a few customers of mine. One guy teed off with a 5 wood every hole....didnt hit it very far. Missed every GIR, (not by much) then chipped close enough to leave himself a gimme one putt. He shot one over par that day. I was amazed. |
