If you are way ahead/ way behind you should be check-calling and not bet-folding.

You played this hand really bad all the way through.

You need to raise more preflop, and you need to bet the turn. Given your preflop check, and your belief that you are WA/WB, a blocker bet is not the correct play.

But anyways, so we go to the river and I have about 17-18k with the pot at 14k now.

I say to myself, I need to make some sort of blocker bet here, but it can't look that obvious because I'm pretty sure he will recognize the blocker bet and maybe make a move on it. Actually, there's a good shot he would. I decide 5k is a decent sized bet and fire out. If he shoves I automuck

[/ QUOTE ]

You don't think this looks like a blocker? Man, I really don't feel this bet is all that great.

On river I check/call.

I don't think betting really does much. What will he call with that you beat? KQ or something? So he will either fold when behind, or perhaps raise with air and you have said your plan is to muck in that case. I don't really like it.

When you check he may check behind, and if it is KQ or TT or something I don't think you really lost any value since he probaby wouldn't have just called river. If he fires out a bet, again reevaluate and probably call. It would take a strong read for me to fold here.

This bet is only great if you're auto-calling his push.

Which I would be.

But you weren't, so C/C is way better.

Once you've put in all that money, bet/folding the river is terrible. It's either check/call if you think you still have good showdown value (you do), or check/fold (NO).

Check/call

I agree with this. This is a perfect situation for a fake block bet. Your hand looks a lot like JJ-TT to him, and stack sizes are just perfect to let an aggressive player try and move you off them. Plus you get more value out of medium made hands that were checking behind.
