Not to excuse the biggest collapse in playoff history, the MVP is a regular season award, and Dirk has been the best player in the regular season the last 3 years.

He hasn't been the best player, he's been the most valuable player. Theres a big difference.

Well, lucky for us he's made it easy on us and been the best player, too.

Value lies in how a player makes their team better, nash has made his team much better this year and deserves the mvp.

At least when Nash won it was still possible for the Suns to win the championship.

[/ QUOTE ]

Was it impossible for Dirk to win a regular season award when it was voted in the regular season? I believe Dirk and the Mavs made the playoffs, thus they had a chance to win the championship.

[/ QUOTE ]
Ugh, are you joking with us here? The MVP award is typically handed out in front of the player's home crowd, usually I believe in the second round of the playoffs. Which the Dallas Mavericks did not make, which makes it impossible for him to receive it while they were still in contention.

Now once it's announced he's gonna have to fly back from Munich or wherever the hell he lives just to attend a press conference and put on a happy face while facing criticism about the legitimacy of his MVP. Big departure from the norm.

So winning it means what? I think winning it means you won a regular season award. Woop de do if it's awarded in the second round or awarded when the guy is at home.
