Default Non-BCS bowl discussion

We have enough chat about the BCS bowls.
While I think the bowl system is silly I also feel like I'm in the minority overall in that I actually am interested in some of the lesser bowls. Growing up watching the MAC will do that to you I suppose. But I really do love all the bowls and can't wait for what will likely be Utah vs. Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl on Dec 20.
Although the conference championship games count somewhat in the fun too.
So time for all you IU and Troy and Kentucky and UCF, etc etc fans to chat about your bowl excitement also.

Disclaimer that I really don't know what I'm talking about or how any of this stuff works so if I'm wrong on some of my opinions it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Anyway, a couple guys from ESPN have their projections but I don't know if they're that strong:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/s...lprojections13

Indiana fans can be happy that it appears they will be going somewhere.
If 2 PAC10 teams go to BCS bowls then the PAC-10 might not have enough teams to qualify and IU might take one of those spots such as the Las Vegas Bowl as one of the guys predicted.

If 2 Big10 teams go to BCS bowls then that effectively bumps everyone else up a notch. The other guy predicted both OSU and ILL going to BCS bowls and that 7th place Indiana would end up in the Champs Sports Bowl which is supposed to go to Big10 No. 4 or 5.

I also can't help but notice that both of these guys put Miami (Ohio) in a bowl game.
I don't think they see what is happening there.
Miami is 6-6. If they lose the MAC championship game then they are ineligible. They are underdogs to CMU.
I really don't think they are both predicting an upset here. I think they just automatically assume that the teams that go to the MAC championship get to go to bowl games too which is normally the case. But not when one of them ends up 6-7.

CMU is going somewhere whether they win or lose.
BG is the No. 3 team in the MAC I guess and they are almost definitely going somewhere also.
Miami goes if they win the championship...but if they lose then that opens the door for Ball State to go somewhere as best I can tell.

I think the bowl-projection guys at ESPN didn't see that.

Memphis is supposed to go to the New Orleans bowl again which is probably a good thing for that bowl. MEM travels fairly decently when they stay somewhat local like N.O. Bowl or GMAC Bowl.

A few teams have already accepted bids or locked in spots it appears.

ESPN lists the locks as:
Navy - Pointsettia
Memphis - New Orleans Bowl
Southern Miss - PapaJohns Bowl
Houston - Texas Bowl

My favorite days are the bowl double-headers and triple-headers:

Dec 22 -
1:00 PapaJohns Bowl, Birmingham
4:30 New Mexico Bowl
8:00 Las Vegas Bowl

Dec 28 -
5:00 Champs Sports Bowl, Orlando
8:00 Texas Bowl on NFL Network
8:30 Emerald Bowl, SF

Dec 29
1:00 Meineke Car Care Bowl
4:30 Liberty Bowl
8:00 Alamo Bowl

Dec 31
12:30 Armed Forces Bowl
2:00 Humanitarian
4:00 Music City Bowl
6:00 Insightcom Bowl, NFL Network
7:30 Chick-fil-A Bowl

Word out of Auburn is either Peach (chick-fil-A) or Outback. If LSU loses the SECCG then we are a lock for the Peach. If Tenn loses then we may get the Outback ahead of them since they went last year, but maybe not. I would be okay with either one, since either would be a good opponent (Clemson/Michigan?) and we haven't been to either in awhile.

Yeah, that coincides precisely with what the 2 ESPN guys predict.
Either Clem/Aub in Chick-fil-a or Mich/Aub in Outback.
So AUB should be represented really well in the stands whether they get ATL or TAM I would think.

I believe that UF is playing in the capital one bowl (hopefully), maybe the outback. I think we'll either play the zookers (should be a fun one) or Wisky.

I hope that the winners of the PJ Bowl get a free pizza party in their locker room after the game.

Some really good potential match-ups that I would look forward to seeing:

Capital One
(Big Ten No. 2 vs. SEC No. 2) Illinois vs. Florida

Champs Sports
(ACC No. 4 vs. Big Ten No. 4/5) Boston College vs.
Penn State

I'm a Penn State grad, so of course I'm looking forward to seeing them play. I also always look forward to watching big ten teams play SEC teams. Always good games, and it was nice seeing PSU beat Tennessee last year, and laughing at all this SEC is light years ahead of the rest of college football talk.

Wow, my new favorite bowl game...

Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl

Also, I love how Papa John's was able to convince them to make it the PapaJohns.com Bowl instead of Papa John's Bowl. I work in advertising, but it's retarded that they allowing .com in the bowl names.

Yeah, obviously it should be papajohns.NET. Now they're going to have to tape ".NET" stickers all over everything that's already been printed with .com.
