Rake vs. Hourly Drop in AC

I'm considering moving up from 1/2N to 2/5 NL. I usually play at Ceasars and I'm told that while the pot is raked 10% (Max $4) at 1/2, all players must pay $5/half-hour to sit at the 2/5 table. It seems like the tax on the 2/5 is relatively much higher and will make the game much tougher to beat.

Can anyone give me the low down on rake vs. hourly drop or refer me to a previous thread that talks about this? Is this the same policy everywhere or are there casinos in AC that rake at all levels?

that's identical to Borgata - since I started NL basically at the 2/5 game I don't appreciate the difference.

The upshot is that the game does play faster, players aren't hollywooding and the game policies itself pretty well on that front. If you aren't ubertight, you'll come out basically even between the two.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Logic dictates that you have to play/win more hands with the drop to "keep up" with it.

How do you adjust for that? Expand your range somehow vs. the raked tables?

I'm a regular in the 2/5 at Borgata. I came from non HE/online so I honestly have like 5 hours of 1/2 lifetime.

The game plays much much deeper - 10%/$4 covers 95% of flopped pots. I win easily three hands per hour - which is above the breakeven point of 2.5 pots/hour ($10 time vs $4 pot).

It's a very good game btw, I can make more in 2/5 than 5/10 (well at least before they changed the limits).

As for a specific style, I'm generally tight, but will open up my range to play pots against the players I want to. I'll also adjust to basically any style that I think would work against a particular player(s).

5$/half is pretty normal for 2/5. However they are some 2/5 games that have lower than this. Almost all 2/5 in Vegas is 10% up to $4, which amounts to about 3.50$/half. The MGM 2/5 is even better with rake being 1$ on 20, 1$ on 40, 1$ on 60, 1$ on 150. This amounts to an average rake of about 2$/half for each player. Pretty sick!

However, California 2/5 is usually 5$ rake if flop, 1$ rake if no flop, which amounts to like 7-8$/half.

If $5/half is killing your profits, you should really move back down, and I'm not joking.

Drop makes a wider range of pots profitably contestable, so you should just be glad to see the end of rake, and then count your chips.

2/5 in AC: Taj, Hilton, Trop, and Showboat, I think are all raked.

The strangest thing at Borgata is that 10/20 LHE is time-charged, but 10/20 Stud/Omaha is raked.
