Default $15 MTT with 77 on button allin or call?

7 players left from 24 entrants. My stack is average. No real reads on opponents. Would you go allin here (you have a pair but you have >10BB) or would you call (hoping for a set since raise from BB usually means something)?

iPoker Network Site 150.00/300.00, hand converted by the iPoker Converter at Talking-Poker

Button Hero ($5040.00)
SB ($6620.00)
BB ($3550.00)
UTG ($6190.00)
UTG+1 ($4980.00)
CO-1 ($3770.00)
CO ($5850.00)

Preflop: Hero is on the Button with 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
1 fold, UTG+1 calls 300.00, 2 folds, Hero calls 300.00, 1 fold, BB raises to 900.00, UTG+1 calls 900.00, Hero ???

If you have already a caller from UTG i would just call 77 too, as it is likely that UTG has a pocket-pair himself.

the main question in these situation is if you can get the implied odds you need if you hit your set.

you have odds of 1:9 to hit your set, so on the first betting round, where you invest 300 in the pot you have to get out at least 2700 if you hit your set to break even.

on the second betting round, where there is already 2100 in the pot and you need 600 to call, you have to get 3200 from your opponents if you hit.

i think a second approach here would be to push preflop on the second round, which i would consider with 99 (ev. 88 on a loose table).

I think it is likely that an opponent will call a reasonable amount with a high PP on a not too scary board. The second approach you mention was also on my mind but since I had just doubled up, I didn't want to loose it again the next hand against some higher PP. If my stack would have been much bigger or smaller I would probably have gone allin.

I guess when an opponent calls with 98o and flops the nut straight that holds, there is not much you can do with 77 ... Except be happy that you are playing against such mor0ns

if you are calling for set mining, make sure you can get away from an all low board. BB has you beat right now or is planning on a go and go and pushing any flop and you are gonna have another decision for a bunch of chips on the flop. If I had to guess, the had QQ+ and CRAI on the flop. Results?

Results: BB had A8o and UTG had 98o. Flop: 765.
BB AI, UTG AI, I snap call and pump fist until I see the 98o.

What can you do...

Personally I shove here every time, this is the perfect stack size to do it with.
