how many drinks??
curious about two things (and i'm asking about alcoholic drinks)...
1) on WSOP coverage, they mention that almost no pros drink at all at table. they seemed to think they have no drinks at all. i find this hard to believe. does anyone have a good idea on this??.... i would agree lots don't, but i'd assume lots do. and i further realize they're not having 7-8 drinks. just wondering if they have a few. 2) leads into my second question: do people find a few drinnks is good for taking off the edge and letting you relax a little?.... my experience has been that it helps some. although i'm only talking about 2-3 drinks. any more than that and i think your judgement slips (although i think they are courage benefits) and you probably give off more tells... thanks in advance for any replies!!! Re: how many drinks??
Here's my 2 cents.
Alcohol impairs your judgement whether it's 2 drinks or 10. I didn't drink at work before I started playing poker, therefore I'm not going to drink at work now. |

Re: how many drinks??
Some pros do drink while playing (Scotty Nguyen and Todd Brunson amongst others), but most do not.
I personally never drink alcohol while playing, unless I am donking it up at low limit. When playing my standard NL game, I drink strictly Non-alc beverages. |

Re: how many drinks??
Here's another two...
There are studies that show having one drink prior to an acdemic test can actually increase in performance on those tests. So your number two observation is partially correct. The same studies show that after one drink, performance decreases...so one drink = good, one + drinks = bad. |

Re: how many drinks??
I like to drink coffee because it makes me more alert and reinforces my image as a "coffee drinking local rock."

Re: how many drinks??
I drink only coffee, the occasional soda, and the Foxwoods Strawberry Shakes. I never drink and gamble after 1 bad experience at the BJ tables.

Re: how many drinks??
Keep in mind that the APPEARANCE that you're drinking can be good for table image.
I can toss down the average casino's watered-down gin & tonics all night without getting a buzz. (I usually end up breaking down and drinking coffee at some point, though, because I love coffee more than booze.) [ QUOTE ] Some pros do drink while playing (Scotty Nguyen and Todd Brunson amongst others) [/ QUOTE ] During the WSOP FT pay per view, Scotty was sitting in and they showed the final seconds of his ME win. He lamented that before giving him the bracelet they took his beer away. |

Re: how many drinks??
i think they implied on a poker telecast (there are so many now) that "men the master" was completely smashed... could have been the U.S. championships (i think 2005). hope i got the player correct.

Re: how many drinks??
I think the "no drinking while gambling" rule a lot of people have is pretty smart, but I do have one exception. I love to drink while playing craps. It adds to the party atmosphere, and the impairing of judgement isn't really a big issue since I'm pretty much doing the same thing on every roll (pass line bet, take odds, mayble place 6/8). Poker on the other hand... the only time I'd drink during that is if I'm donking it up at low limits and don't care if I lose.
