Default Super System (NOT 2) question RE; Sklansky\'s Hi low split chapter.

If this is the wrong forum, please move. I wasn't sure where it should go.

David "Einstein" Sklansky, LOL cracks me up everytime, covers HIGH-LOW Split and it appears to be similar to Stud 8 but with no qualifier for low. He mentions having a queen low or something similar as a back up in case you miss for high.

Does this chapter still apply to Stud 8 and am I right that the game described is split pot stud but no qualifier for low?

I have been playing some micro limit Stud 8 and the advice seems to be really good.

Its bad advice if your playing Stud 8 with a qualifier, hi/low split without a qualifier is an antiquated game that is now only played in the Bellagio mix game and nowhere else (I believe it used to be played at Casino Arizona's mix, but they switched to Stud 8 as well).

Your best bets for learning about S8 is Raz Z's high/low split book and Super System II's S8/b chapter written by Tod Brunson - one of the more solid sections of the book (its lacking a bit, but its solid none the less). I recommend that you read both, Tod's chapter first to get the basic concepts down pat, then Ray Z's book to understand the finer nuances of the game.

thats the key, S8 chapter in SS2 will give you the foundation that you can then use with Ray's book.

Another option is Paul Kamen's e-book, its surprisingly pretty good but there are some errors in communicating concepts (it probably wont be a major concern, you have become good enough to catch this on your own). I think he sells it in Acrobat format only, do a good search. Good luck, its a tough game!

Google was not my friend. The only hits seemed to be Paul Kamen sailing page and Paul Kamen a body builder.

Man, it seems like you just don't believe me. Stud hi-lo no qualifier ("any-any stud" in local parlance) is still played regularly in the 75-150 mix at Casino Arizona. This is because the game is played dealer's choice, with the game changing every half-hour, and many of the players enjoy any-any stud.

I agree with what you said about books to read.

The "Paint Rule" seems to work out pretty good.
