Default Re: Why are we playing poker?

Here's my list of reasons as to why I play poker:
1.) the money
2.) the fact that poker players can make more than some high paying, respected professions (e.g. doctors in hospitals, investors) without a degree
3.) being able to make money online while in your boxers / underwear
4.) you set your own hours as to when you want to make money

Because this is not different then working at McDonald`s doing some boring shiat just to pay your bills.
McDonald`s job however is a guaranteed +EV and the risk of ruin is 0%.
Compare that to the uncertainty of Poker and it doesn`t take a genius to realize that flipping burgers is a much better option for this type of people.

i think even the risk of ruin is higher at mcdonalds. as a winning player with a BR, ability to decreases stakes, and option to play whenever for as long as you like is much more secure.

you can get fired at mcdonalds(not sure for what haha never worked this area).

i just realized how awful trying to argue with this guy is, ill post this anyways though

Maybe I'm different than most but I play for a variety of reasons and the money is far from the top.

I play online due to boredom as I would rather play a few hundred hands then watch an episode on TV.

I enjoy how the game is simple to play but takes a skill to be good at.

It's a past time that my buddies from high school get together on a night and catch up.

Lastly my stakes are micro so the money is good but not life changing. I normally pay for a trip every year or something similar but I dont make enough to subsidize my income.

I am addicted to the competition. Getting a chance to best the best is often not possible in athletic games, but poker makes it very real. Money is the inspiration for all players to try and become better.
