The "Hey, let's throw pig-guts quality pop culture references on our song sheet and see what sticks!" formula of this song worked well enough to clich the distinction as the worst ever. [/ QUOTE ] Not to rain on your parade or anything, but take a look at the "lyrics" for Cotton-Eye Joe and realize that Summer Girls is a truly stunning work art worthy of much admiration in comparison.

I actually like a surprising number of the songs nominated in this thread. I think "Achy Breaky Heart" and "Summer Girls" are leaps and bounds above everything else mentioned in this thread in terms of being awful.

There's surely a billion songs worse than We Built This City that so many people haven't even heard before. So, it's really "what's the worst of the best?" This is the problem inherent in this kind of discussion.

Definately not, as it's an old classic by the Shadows. The cover version of it by the Incredible Bongo Band is probably the most sampled tune of all time. It's very hard to make the song suck, even by Seebach. Disco Tango by the same artist is a strong contestant for the worst song ever,however.
