Thoughts on the 1-10 rating scale
In this thread, a poster shows his lack of understanding of basic math, saying that while Britney Spears is hotter than 85 out of 100 random girls, she is NOT hotter than 85% of the female population.(....) Anyways, I got to thinking a bit then that if 85% is exactly true for her, then she is an 8.5. Then my thoughts turned to Seinfeld's immortal proclamation, "95% of the population is UNDATEABLE!"
Anyways, it seem to me that a far bigger % of US woman are 4-6 than 8-10, and also that there are far more 1-3's than 8-10's also, so the bell curve might be more of a pear curve, and that a true 8.5 is likely more attractive than MORE than 85% of the population? Is this obv? Thoughts? P.S. I am more attractive than 46.3645% of the male population. It was 46.3644%, but I forgot about TSC. |

The top of the bell on an OOT scale is somewhere around the 3. Where being a 5 already puts you in the 3 sigma.

Re: Thoughts on the 1-10 rating scale
Yes its obviously a curve, in my mind it should be a perfect bell curve but I see your point of there being much more 2s then 9s so Im willing to buy the pear curve.
8.5 DOES NOT equal 85th percentile though, it is MUCH higher... that should be obvious. |

Re: Thoughts on the 1-10 rating scale
Your conclusion that the attraction distribution is a pear curve is wrong. Attraction is indeed a normal curve (Gaussian). there are just as many 1-3's as there are 8-10s.
