wtf. Do cenipedes really prey on stuff? This is total bs. First off, how does this thing kill it; second, why does he eat it?

Scolopendra gigantea

[ QUOTE ]
Scolopendra gigantea, commonly identified as the ‘Peruvian giant yellowleg centipede’ or ‘Amazonian giant centipede’, is the world's largest representative of scolopendras which can reach lengths of up to 26 cm (10 inches). The species inhabits the North and West regions of South America and the islands of Trinidad and Jamaica. It feeds on lizards, frogs and birds and mice.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]

The centipede has modified claws called forcipules which curve around its head and can deliver venom into its prey to assist in immobilizing it. The venom is toxic to humans; (the poison contains acetylcholine, histamine, and serotonin) and causes a local sharp pain (similar to a hornet-sting), and severe swelling, chills, fever, and weakness.

Not sure about Daddy longlegs itself, but for some other spiders that aren't venomous to humans, it ends up stinging for a while and may leave a nice red irritation at the site of the bite. One of the guys I work with in the lab got bitten twice by our experimental spiders, Delena cancerides (pic) and ended up with this irritation.

BTW, if you happen to recognize these spiders, they were the featured species in Arachnophobia.

So what would this giant centipede do if it encountered a human. Would it attack the human? Would the human die or would it be able to fend it off?

I hate them too. One of my good friends is an exterminator and he always sets a ton of traps down and zaps anything. I'm not into preserving rats and other bugs. If I see them I want them dead.

The best part of the video was the creepy cameraman egging on the centipede, "Yeah eat him".

Clearly the giant centipede would dominate a person. If they still roamed free, we'd live in bubble cities and never venture outside of the domes.
