Questions concerning big pairs in preflop hand selection

I get into these situations all the time and I'm not sure if I should be playing these cards at all.

Hands like these. A pair of queens with a suit under the gun. Should I just be open folding this? Should I limp call if someone behind me raises? What if it was QQ52 double suited.

Is there any value calling here with KK24 1 suit out of position? Their raising range is wide but I'm not sure if I can extract much value in hitting my set when I'm out of position and KK24 doesn't exactly flop too well. Still... I'm getting about 5 to 1 to call here so I'm not sure.
