he is 27 and has a career .803 OPS in a minors with a .334 OBP.... I know he has 3 home runs in 10 abs or whatever right now, but why exactly should we be all that excited about him?

he has shown some improvement in his last few years in the minors

on top of that, he provides a good pinch hitting option off the bench, which is especially important as molina will now be catching 1-2 games a week and will allow posada to see a full day of rest if he really needs it

also, he allows the yankees to rest the oft-injured johnny damon without putting a significant hole in the lineup - ie miguel cairo

in addition, if he stays hot he could be a great trade chip

obviously i dont expect him to stay this hot... but if he can perform at a decent rate above replacement level, he'll be good for the yanks

If you can't get excited about a career minor-leaguer tearing it up for your team when he finally gets a shot, why do you bother watching baseball?

He was a top pick like 5 years ago and had 25 homers this year in AAA with .380 OBP and .580 Slugging.

Also, the Yankees have played : Kevin Thompson, Josh Phelps, Miguel Cairo and Andy Phillips at his positions.

Maybe because I am not talking about how excited I was watching him hit the 2 home runs today, but instead talking objectively about how much he will be able contribute in the future for the team? totally different

oh, I just googled his name and the site I looked at only had his historical stats, ie not including 2007 so I didn't see those numbers, that is a definite plus. also true about who he's replacing. I just hadn't ever of him and googled him to find out who he was and saw those crappy numbers.

also, if you are watching the YES telecast, LOL at the mets.
