In terms of the lyrical structure and effects, it sounds to me quite a lot like "F**k The Pain Away" by the Peaches. I like that song, so I give Timberlake some respect, although on a plagiaristic level.

Michael Jackson is a pedophile but it's still ok to like his music. I predict JTimb to take a similar career path (possibly with out the pedophilia) as MJ, starting from the pop boy band, then going solo, then becoming extremely effeminate and eccentric, and ultimately ending in some sort of George Michael related scandal.

[ QUOTE ] Timberland [/ QUOTE ] How To Lose Street Cred, Part 1. [/ QUOTE ] haha. I had this friend over one time who was using my computer to check out music on P2P. He's super computer illiterate and was complaining how it was [censored] that he couldn't find any songs by the artist he wanted. I take a look at the search field and he had typed "ghost face killer". |

Re: Help, I might have to do something drasatic......
lol. dont feel bad my wife gave me a hard time a few months ago when i accidentally start singing along with a nick lache(sp?-jessica simsons ex) song while on a road trip listening to the radio while driving. i told her if she told anyone id spill the beans about JTs sexyback being on her ipod..lol. that shut her up.
on a side note she stated that all nicks songs sound like a christian song that changed "god" or "jesus" to "girl" like cartman did in one of my favorite south park episodes. i heard another nick song a few weeks later and realized she was 100% right. |

Thanks for the PSA. I have not heard this song and I will cover my ears should I hear it to avoid being infatuated with Justin.

If he did, I would be very impressed. That said, I really like Sexyback because its contribution to Post Modernism, which is missing from much of popular music. For one, the concept of "taking it to the chorus" in a song in which there is no bridge is playfully self-mocking. Also, based on the couple times I've heard it, I can only hear JT's voice for about 15-20% of the song. The rest is guest artists and highly computerized vocals. Sure, the beat has been done before, and the hook isn't that inventive; however, this song's commitment to sincerity, and at the same time, awareness of its triteness presents a very unique and enjoyable listening experience. |
