Default Dids et al, BBV4L question

Well, before anything i'll admit my bias, I can't stand football or baseball. Yeah, i'm a communist and terrorist.

Anyhow, I was going to start 3 separate 'containment' threads in BBV4L, one for basbeall, one for college football and for the NFL, and I started this thread to get feedback and verification. Srsrly I dont think there needs to be 10 separate low content threads in the first 50 about some random sports crap. Every time I see a college football thread started I die a little inside.

Admittedly the bias plays a small part, considering the last time a basketball thread was started the first reply was something like 'um, you know there's a sport forum lolz noob diagf.' The same for soccer/football.

Discuss.

I'm not a big fan of containment threads unless there is a humorous purpose like GA's thread. The sports stuff will pass. The BBV4L attention span is 48 hours at most and as you know, once we try to crack down on anything we get eleventy billion new threads on the topic. This will likely only be a weekend thing anyway.

cc,

i'd leave those threads alone. the forum is a conglamoration of random stuff that's on people's minds. on the weekends for 20 weeks or so, that means pro or college football. as long as there isn't a thread for every division 1 game (though we haven't seen many omg the harvard yale game is ON BABY!!! and i would be pretty amused if we did), it's fine, imo.

i only clicked on the mod notification on your post because i was like "wtf, i see nothing wrong with that post, i guess i should go see the thread?"

anyway, maybe a weekly college football thread + weekly pro football thread, or maybe one weekly football thread? i just gag at the concept of actually going on in calling these things a containment thread. i think that on top of other problems (like stupidity), it makes people feel like they *must* keep all discussion in that one thread, where in reality we shouldn't give a [censored] if someone makes another thread if they think there's a good reason.

The containment thread was just a one time idea to control EricW. This because BBV4L likes him enough that I don't outright ban him. GA made the other one, because he's smart enough to pick up on where I was going I guess. I didn't ask him to.

I don't love the idea of sports containment threads. Those aren't bad threads at all, and the only reason to "contain" anything is to keep all the suck in one place.

Fair enough, it was just an idea I had.

I understand I hate freedom for not liking football, but that had little to do with this. It was just at one point last night about every other thread was college football related.

Meh, live and let live.
