Answering your own question
From Pokerpages WPT coverage :
2:31pm - "I wonder if any tournaments will ever take the step to ban headphones and Ipods? There must be about 30% of the players here using these, and it is all too common to see someone take their headphones off and ask, "What's the bet?" or "Is it on me?" or "What just happened?". Furthermore, they often miss tournament announcements. Will it ever come to being banned? Does a player's need to focus outweigh the lack of consideration to the table?" 7:32pm - "Mike Matusow is sitting in seat 4 of table 50, which is in one corner of the Fontana Room. The opposite corner would be table 58, seat 9. While standing next to table 58, seat 9, I can clearly hear Mike Matusow's comments. Ergo, everyone in this room can hear him too. The nickname is well-deserved." I'll stop wearing headphones when people like Matusow shut the hell up. Any thoughts ? |

Re: Answering your own question
Tournament Circuit probably. But it's better to let moderators decide I guess.

I think I agree this one is wrong, but yes, moderators feel free to move to where it fits in best.

Re: Answering your own question
Actually, with headphones/iPod and Sunglasses, I feel a protection or isolation from being easily read by the table. Most of the time my iPod was turned off.
In terms of asking the dealer about the amount of bet,etc..., in most cases, it is just to confirm the amount to avoid any dispute in the action. Even without headphones/ipod, players are more likely to ask before acting to a bet/raise. If you sit near Mike or Barry Greenstein, headphones definately help to focus on the game. |

Re: Answering your own question
I wear sunglasses and headphones because I'm more comfortable that way. The glasses I wear you can actually see my eyes anyway, but I still feel kind of "protected" - I like sunglasses for this reason even not playing cards.
As for the iPod, I'd kill myself sitting at a table that long without some form of entertainment, and I agree even if I weren't listening a lot of times I would still be asking to make sure of betsize. |
