tool to measure distance ran?
I just started playing indoor soccer and thought it would be very interesting to track how much I run during a game and also to track it over time, I would assume as I get more fit that I would increase my distance both because I stay on the field longer without substitution and because I am more active when on it.
can anyone suggest a good tool that can track this kind of thing but not affect my play in an indoor soccer game? tx. |

Re: tool to measure distance ran?
I think most pedometers are going to be very inaccurate for the kind of running you do in a soccer game. I've never seen one that doesn't depend on avg stride distance.

Re: tool to measure distance ran?
The Garmin thing probably won't work for soccer because you need to attach a part to your shoelaces.

they make GPS units that attach to your arm that will do this. I've seen them in REI

Re: tool to measure distance ran?
This is the Garmin Forerunner 305, it's been terrific for me. It can show time, distance, pace, pulse, altitude, some crude maps, and a bunch of other stuff. I was worried it would be bulky on the wrist but it's fine, it basically just seems like a regular watch. Shop around for prices, they can vary >50%. Besides wearing it for regular runs, I've also worn it during a few mellow pick-up soccer games (b/c I was curious) and it works great. I've heard that satelite reception can be an issue for some people but I've had zero problems. edit: haha, I didn't even see in your OP that you mentioned soccer games. Hm, the truth is that I'm not sure I would wear mine during a competitive soccer game, mostly because I wouldn't want it to get too banged around (it would probably be fine, but still), and second because of the white cleats factor. Also the reception indoors might be dodgy. |
