Guys, I dont get why you dont take your broads on a weekend getaway for every present. Giving jewelry = not fun for you. vacation = fun for you.

sounds like KotOD should start an "ask me about jewelry" thread.

Negative, I'm not a jeweler, but my dad introduced me to one when I was in high school. I've saved myself thousands, had custom jewelry made for less than I could have purchased mass produced stuff, got an engagement ring for much less than at retail place, I have a lifetime warranty for settings, clasps, links and other assorted stuff, get to go to cocktail receptions, and have a standing invite to his homegame

On the other side, my wife worked in and managed stores from two different recognizable names and can attest to the low quality, mass-produced crap that comes out of big chains.

And I'm not even talking about specific products yet. I won't go into the ridiculousness of the diamond market.

Agree. I recently bought my girlfriend (now fiancé) an engagement ring. I went to a jeweler rather than a jewelery store. The difference in price for the fitting alone was substantial. A platinum fitting was about $800, as opposed to $1800 for a similar platinum fitting at Zales.

For those of you hating on the mixer idea, you have no idea how much women love the KitchenAide mixer. If you just got her a cheapo mixer, it would be a lame/unacceptable gift. But if you shell out the 250 for the KitchenAide, you're golden.

Find a jeweler, buy...hm...a black pearl bracelet, natural pearls so they aren't all the same and ... this dress..and these shoes - get a deal on the bracelet.

Anything from a jewelry store or jeweler is golden, but I LOVE the cruise idea, 3 day cruise under $300 ea, splurge. After 7 years, I think she probably deserves it for putting up with your arse.

Believe it or not, a lot of women would find a cruise incredibly tacky, so I would be very careful with that idea...
