From busto to rolled (Warning: long)
When I first began playing poker I was a 32/9/0.86 donk who only beat break even by bluffing the super nits off overpairs. What I won playing 2 tables of .5/1 was normally lost at horribly failed attempts at moving up to 1/2, and 4/180s (they're so hard!). This continued on for some months, never really doing much. Although its an awfull style in the long run, playing a super terrible game like that does let you see some akward situations, so I was at least learning a few situations. I started to play a little better and started making a little more (went from 0.7 to 1.0bb/100).
Then In the middle of march I was riding my motorcycle one night really drunk after fighting with my girl friend (genius!) and I dropped my bike going like 50-70 . I was skinned from head to to, but was lucky to only chip a vertibre and dislocate my shoulder. I was in the hospital for a little over a week, and had to go bad in because I got a staph infection. All in all it cost a pretty penny and I wasn't insured. My parents luckily bailed me out, but since they didn't want me to get a bike and I bought one behind their backs, they are making me pay them back. I had been working since I was 16 and built up a pretty decent savings, but I bought a new car and the infamous bike so that was pretty low. I cashed out my poker bankroll, and after I paid my parents the first months rent, paid of my credit card, and paid my rent the next month I had 45$ left in my bank account. When I laid out my finances, I realised I was going to be making a measley 120 dollars a month profit tops with all the payments I was having to make. This simply would not sustain, so I began looking for other means to make money. I was way to old to start selling weed again so I naturally turned to poker being the worthless degen that I am. I took 15 dollars of the remaining 45 I had from my bank account and put it into pokerstars. Remembering the 2+2 books I got from pokerstars so long ago had a forum, I searched this site down. After 30 minutes of browsing, I had a revelation, play tight aggressive!! It makes sense! I fired up a table of .01/.02 and proceeded to run that 15 up to 139$ multi tabling .01/.02. Then I moved up to multitabling 10NL and easily stack up another 465 dollars. Feeling pretty comfortable with how I was doing, I decided to "take a shot" at 25NL. Soon after I lost with aces 4x in a row within 300ish hands... All in all with these losses, a few other coolers/beats, and me tilting like a aids infested monkey I lost a little more than 300 dollars (1/2 my roll, oh noes!). The next day I continued playing 25NL assuming I had to run better since I was terrorized so bad. Of course things ran a little better and I was able to make a little profit and build some confidence back. I also played some 4/180 donks because they are so soft and its nice to have a tournament to pay attention to during the repetative grind of multitabling. I was able to make a few decent cashes and even win one. Then today I played a 2.50 MTT with 2k+ players because it was starting in 1 min and my normaly 4/180 was at 0 players. I took 6th for 182$, bluffing out in the final table against a donk with AA. What an idiot, not folding AA. (Beat: Im still -ROI for tournies) So with the 500 dollars worth of tourney cashes and a little cash games I was able to turn 15 dollars into a roll that will hopefully be able to make me a few extra hundred a month.. at least. |

Re: From busto to rolled (Warning: long)
Cliff notes: Op used to suck at poker, now doesnt suck as bad.
Made 15 $ into 600, moved up lost 200, chased losses, lost 110. Got lucky in some donks, played some slightly proffitable cash, back up to 900. |
