Default Ace on the Button 200NL

One of the spots I have trouble with. Have absolutley no read on villain, no history

Full Tilt Poker, $1/$2 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 6 Players
LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter

UTG: $232.05
MP: $310.10
CO: $41.30
Hero (BTN): $197
SB: $202.75
BB: $281.60

Pre-Flop: 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] dealt to Hero (BTN)
3 folds, Hero raises to $7, SB folds, BB calls $5

Flop: ($15) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players)
BB checks, Hero bets $10, BB raises to $30, Hero calls $20

Turn: ($75) 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players)
BB bets $44, Hero calls $44

River: ($163) 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players)
BB bets $100, Hero folds

Results: $163 Pot ($3 Rake)
BB mucked and WON $160 (+$79 NET)

Thoughts on how you would play in these spots?

Fold flop, if you don't fold the flop fold turn, since you didn't fold turn, good fold on the river. I would also check this flop at times.

With no history, very easy flop fold.

Did the 4 of diamonds cause you to fold on the river? I think you need to decide on the turn if u are ahead or not. A call and then a fold getting 2.5 to 1 on the river plays pretty weak.

The way that it is played you are forced to fold the flop. There is no way of knowing whether you have the best hand or not and he has shown a lot of strength as an unkown check raising on an A high flop. What do you beat that he is check raising here?

I think the solution to your problem is trying to get to a cheap showdown with your marginal hand that has a lot of showdown value. You very likely have the best hand but what is he going to call a bet with on the flop that you have beat? An ace with a worse kicker? I think that we should assume an unknown at 200Nl knows that he shouldn't be playing Ax where x = 7 or less out of position. So there really is no hands that you are getting value from.

Check behind on the flop and if he checks the turn to you bet it here to get value from middle pairs and suited connector type hands that picked up a smaller pair. If he bets into you on the turn you can go ahead and call and keep the pot small enough to get to a showdown.

Your goal here should bet getting to showdown cheaply and getting value from worse hands. Neither of which you accomplish by betting the flop.

as played fold. i often check the flop in this spot though especially against someone i have no reads on, to keep the pot relitively small with a marginal hand and for a cheap showdown (as said above). really should fold flop next time though

I like this reasoning. You can c-bet this flop this flop w/ the rest of your Pf raising range that doesnt include an A and thus has no showdown value. As played def fold flop.
