Default Baton Rouge report

Played at the Belle of Baton Rouge Monday night.

They have 2 2/5 NL tables and one 4/8 limit table. Got on the 4/8 list at 9pm and didn't sit down until after midnight. The 2/5 list was just as long but moved a lot faster.

By 3am they were down to one full 2/5 table and the 4/8 table was 8-handed.

The play was just as loose as I'd expect, but exceptionally passive. The only time anyone reraised before the flop was with a high PP, and in 4 hours the betting was only capped preflop one time!

No smoking at the poker tables, but the rest of the casino is extremely smokey. I spent 3 hours playing various table games, often wedged between two smokers - not fun.

Talking to some locals, this is the only (legal) poker game in town. Talking to the dealers, they might be opening another table soon.

I read somewhere that the Belle has shut its room down. Guess I was wrong.

Noob question: so if it's 4/8 limit, that means the blinds are 2/4, right? I know that's how it works online but I've never played live before. I ask because I can handle a $200 buy-in, but not much more. What'd you buy in for?

Yep those blinds are right, and 200 should be ok if the game is like he says it is.

They did shut down the room early last year. But reopened last fall with just 3 tables.

I was there from 7 pm Monday Night until 5 am when the 2-5-10 NL(mandatory straddle after midnight) game was breaking.

The 4-8 game is basically unbeatable with the $5 rake. But the NL game is golden.

Next time your there say hello. I usually wear a Nevada Golf hat.

How much would you buy in for at the 2-5 NL game? Are there sufficient-enough idiots to buy in for $200 and have a chance?

Were you at the NL table where the guy fell out of his chair? That was pretty funny but I never did figure out why that happened.. This was my first business trip to Baton Rouge - if/when I go again I'll look for your hat.

I would say that 200 is only enough if you want play extremely tight and look for a double up opportunity. Most pots are raised to 25-40+ so you need to have some ammo after the flop.

I always buy in for the max which is $500 or 50% of largest stack.

And yes I saw the guy fall out of the chair. He was at the must move table. I was sitting in the main game when it happened and couldn't wait for those drunk idiots to get to our table. They finally did and I can sit a little higher in my chair because of it.

This is not correct. In Louisiana, all LLHE games are easily beatable.

If you consider less than minimum wage beatable then yes, I agree.

Playing 4/8 limit in Oklahoma with a $5 rake, it's EXTREMELY beatable... and I tend to make more than minimum wage by quite a bit. And that's with questionable calldowns.
