Re: bcs championship game??
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I do think it's "lol funny" that Georgia could get in despite not even PLAYING in their conference title game. Awesome system. [/ QUOTE ] Nebraska did it in the 2001 season. [/ QUOTE ] I know. I thought that was funny too. Just as OU losing their conf title game by like 200 points and still getting into BCS game. [/ QUOTE ] Even I didn't think that was right. Kansas shouldn't get in, because of many reasons. They didn't prove they were the best team in their conference on the field and no one really considers them to be. Out of the four top teams in their conference, they were 0-1 against the only one they played. They were also 0-1 against Sagarin's Top 40 teams. Georgia should definitely get the nod over them, since they at least are considered as good as LSU (or are playing that way now) and were 3-1 against top 30 Sagarin teams. |

Re: bcs championship game??
I think I made a couple errors in my projections. If Oklahoma wins, I think the most likely place for Kansas to wind up is the Rose Bowl: the Rose Bowl Committee has shown they like B12 teams, Kansas is much more attractive nationally than Illinois and I forgot in my original projections that Georgia is a lock. My bet with Troll partially depends on the Rose Bowl Committtee sharing my opinion.
New projection with the team most likely to go (imo) listed first. Hawaii, WV and USC obv need to win, its just my head already hurts from figuring this: NC: Missouri/OSU v. WV Rose: OSU//Kansas/Illinois/Georgia v. USC Sugar: LSU/Tenn v. Hawaii Orange: VT/BC v. Georgia/Kansas Fiesta: Kansas/Oklahoma v. ASU/Illinois/Clemson |

Re: bcs championship game??
i think all leagues should have a championship game.... occasionally works the opposite way. where a team would want the extra tough game to move up. and everyone wants to play the best (i think)..... i was pulling for kansas but it was somewhat illusionary their success.

Re: bcs championship game??
If we assume the following favorites win their last game:
USC (-19.5 over UCLA) West Virginia (-28 over Pitt) Hawaii (-13.5 over Washington) Virginia Tech (-4.5 over BC) LSU (-8 over Tennessee) Oklahoma (-3 over Missouri) Then my projections for the BCS are: NCG: West Virginia vs. Ohio State Orange: Virginia Tech vs. Kansas Fiesta: Oklahoma vs. Arizona State Rose: USC vs. Georgia Sugar: LSU vs. Hawaii I think that if it comes down to #3 Georgia or #just snuck into the top 14 Illinois, the Rose Bowl will take the better game over Pac Ten/Big Ten... but I could be wrong. Also, Orange could take Missou over Kansas, tough decision there. |

Re: bcs championship game??
They have to go somewhere, as does Hawaii (who would be an auto-bid) as a top 12 mid-major. This doesn't *force* the Rose Bowl to take either of them, though, because there are still three slots left for other bowls to put them in. The Pac Ten could still take Illinois if they want. I don't think they would choose to do so though.

Re: bcs championship game??
It looks like the only difference in our lists is you have OU winning and we switch Kansas and Georgia. The reason I think Georgia won't go to the Rose Bowl is that the Rose Bowl has first pick if OSU plays the NC game and I think Kansas is more attractive: Kansas has a higher national profile and my wild guess is that they travel better.

Re: bcs championship game??
I'm pretty sure the Rose Bowl would rather have USC-Georgia (two teams that many people believe are the two best teams in the country at this moment) than USC-Kansas. Kansas has no historical profile, and while they have one fewer losses than Georgia a lot of people feel that they are a fraud.
I see almost no chance of USC-Kansas. The Rose Bowl takes either Georgia (for the "best" matchup) or Illinois (for Pac Ten vs. Big Ten). By my estimation Georgia is more likely, but I think it's about 60/40. The Rose Bowl really does like that whole "history" thing... |
