Default TD Quiz #4

UB $3-6
Aggressive player (Hero actually) opens from MP with 247xx. Villain calls in BB with 34569.

Villain stand pat, Hero draws 2.

Villain bets, Hero calls
Villain stands pat, Hero draws 2

Villain bets, Hero calls with 24677
Villain stands, Hero draws 1

Villain checks, Hero bets with 24678, Villain calls

Should either have played it differently?

Oh, and to be clear, I'm taking these quizzes -- you all are grading them for me thanks.

At what point did you know the villain had a pat 9 or worse, and why? That should be the real quiz.

For extra credit, would you consider raising at any time in the hand knowing the villain had a pat 9?

For extra extra credit, who is a favorite to win the hand after the first draw?

Villain calling on the end seems pretty bad to me unless Hero loves to insta-bluff on the river often (do you?) I guess it seems weak to check/fold in a big pot, I just don't think you'll be shown King-low or a pair too often. If that is the case, check/call seems ok to snap one off.

Villain is a big fish. He needs to jam preflop. The river is one of those balancing plays where the best players get their percentages right. He can call sometimes, fold sometimes, checkraise sometimes, and bet out sometimes intending to do lots of stuff if raised. It depends. A lot. Hero played fine.

TT: When he called preflop and stood pat that is usually a dead giveaway (am I not supposed to answer these?) I'd jam it preflop if I knew his hand but I'm pretty sure he's a small favorite after one draw of me bricking.

answer: after the first draw. Its plain as day, he has a very weak made hand.

I raise before the second draw, I want him to break!

Without discrediting the dead 3,5 & 6, I think we are about .278 to win the hand. (3's, 5's, 6's & 8's with 45 unknown cards). Effective Odds are 7.5-2.5 (1bet each street)

If you are villian, what do you do to a raise after the first draw? His hand is to bad to break, no?

So calling pre-first and standing pat means a 9 (or a rough 8?)?

I guess Villain should have raised pre-first?

I'm answering without advantage of thread so I may answer in a way differently than has already been correctly answered.

Depends on villain, but with most "normal" fishy players calling the opening raise and then drawing none screams weak. Some people might slowplay a made seven that way, but most don't at the levels I play (lower than OP).

[ QUOTE ]
For extra credit, would you consider raising at any time in the hand knowing the villain had a pat 9?

[/ QUOTE ]

Best time to raise would be after the second draw and before the last draw since we are in position and if BB has a breakable bad hand we can get him to draw at it and sometimes we might even get him to fold.

[ QUOTE ]
For extra extra credit, who is a favorite to win the hand after the first draw?

[/ QUOTE ]

This has to depend on if we can get BB to break his hand or not. If BB will never break then I think we are way behind after missing completely the first draw. After doing some Q&D Excel math I make us ~24.77% likely to win if he doesn't break (~4% we brick on 2nd draw but draw 2 and win on 3rd; ~8% we hit both and win after the 2nd draw; ~12% we hit one card on 2nd draw and the final card on 3rd draw).

If we can get him to break (or maybe even fold) by betting after 2nd street then that would be even better then above and we may be a favorite after all.
