Would you give up the welfare state if....
....It meant the end of the wars in the Middle East and the dismantling of Americas Military-Industrial Complex?

Re: Would you give up the welfare state if....
Why would there be that tradeoff? In fact arguably the MIC and war somewhere would be even more necessary if there were no welfare state.

is the unicorn flying under it's own power - or is it in UFO (Unicorn Flyable Object) - will it sell me the secret of anti-gravity if I say yes?

would you give up the welfare state if a unicorn flew down and told you to? [/ QUOTE ] The question wasnt 'does giving up the welfare state reduce the government enough to prevent wars in the middle east?' the question is 'If it were true that giving up the welfare state would get rid of Americas war machine, would you do it?'. The original premise might be totally wrong, but I think the question is worth discussing. |

Re: Would you give up the welfare state if....
Because I'm just trying to gauge where peoples values lie. If we can all agree that certain trade offs arent worth it, then we can discuss whether or not there actually is a trade off.
The problem with the anti-war movement is that they arent willing to give up on the main cause of wars and violence. You cant change government, you can only increase it or decrease it. I'm just trying to figure out how much of a neccecity people think the welfare state is. |

By tying it to something so tenuously related as "They are both government programs" can only distort, not clarify the answers. Thats a technique pollsters try to use to get the results they have been hired to report. |
