So, in 5 hours or so, Klompy leaves us for basic training. I trust he can give us more details.

We all have our favorite posters. Klompy made my list when he started talking about Dutch food. Since I'm Dutch, and recognized what he was talking about, he got my attention. Since then his posts have never disappointed.

I found out later that he lives just two blocks away from me, and is friends with my son. I have never met Klompy in real life, and now regret not making more of an effort to meet him.

In any case, good luck sir. You will be missed. Never forget where you belong.

He's been to our house, but it was before I knew who was, and I don't believe we were ever introduced. With the girls, came the guys. And there were plenty of guys roaming around my house I never knew.

I'm heading to FT Jackson for 10 weeks of basic followed directly by me heading to FT Gordon Georgia for 17 weeks of AIT for training to be an information systems analyst. There will likely be some dead time in there somewhere for processing but I imagine I'll be back in Iowa early next summer.

I joined the National Guard because I'm simply not good enough to beat high enough stakes to make playing cards desirable to me anymore, and it's time for me to finish college (dropped out after 2 1/2 years). I'm well aware that I'll likely head to the middle east sometime in the near future, and when that comes up it will be another thing to deal with, but I think this is for the best.
