Default Just flatcalling with position, instead of raising....

I hear many people that advocate that this is the best way to go...some never do it, some mix it in, and some always do it. What's your opinion on the value gained/lost when flatcalling in position, as opposed to reraising?

4 streets of betting and a million other factors make this thread dead without a further defining of where you want the thread to go.
