Wait, are people arguing that it was actually a HR too? I didn't see the final play of the game, so I can't comment on that, but I saw the replay of the "homer" several times and it really looked to me as if it hit the yellow marking at the top of the wall.

the ball bounced UP though, away like it would have if it had hit the yellow thing

"I think so," said Holliday, who only moments earlier had tripled in Troy Tulowitzki with the tying run. "I mean, the umpire called me safe, so I must have touched the plate. I was just trying to get in there and score the run."

holliday definitely doesn't think he touched it

For the record, when Holliday tagged up and went face first in the dirt and (maybe) scored....the guy on first stayed on first. I saw a replay with him just standing there close to first.

Mute point, but dumb.

totally agree. the people who are arguing it hit a wheelchair are blowing my mind. I feel like i saw the ball hit that yellow thing on replay like 50+ times. How on earth would the ball bounce back like that from hitting a wheelchair? rofl.

It was a pretty quiet point. Not sure if it was totally mute though.

I watched that replay 3 or 4 times (however many they showed it) and I couldn't tell for sure whether he touched the plate. I think not, but I couldn't see it well enough to be sure. OTOH, there was the "double" that appeared to bounce back from the top of the rail, which was probably actually a home run, and would have given the Rockies the win without extra innings, so maybe the questionable calls balanced out. They were both very difficult to tell, even on replay, let alone in real time, so I can't really fault the umps. It was a very strange bounce on that ball off the rail, if it did indeed hit the top. It must have had a lot of backspin.

It looked like he did because he didn't make a move to go back and touch it. If that happened, then the ump would assume that Holliday did not touch it and he would be out if Barrett beat him to the plate.

It was similar to the should-have-been home run. If the outfielder just turned around and stared at it as opposed to fielding it as if it was still live, then the umps may be more inclined to call it a home run.
