I've actually found that alcohol does a much better job than any of the drugs I am taking...But, i AM taking drugs, and from what I understand, ibuprofen + lots of alcohol = stomach bleeding.

Really? I always take 800-1200mg during a night out to prevent massive headache the day after.

Yes, I've also heard it's true from my doctor buddy.

Taking aspirin or ibuprofin and alcohol can damage your liver over the long run. That said, one day of it won't kill you, I'm 35 and have done in numerous times. Whiskey actually dulls tooth pain remarkably well.

BTW you may not want to load up on crazy drugs too much since presumably you're going under tomorrow and general anaesthetics are pretty dangerous to mix drugs with.

True? I'm not sure if I'm technically "going under". Err, unless "going under" means "going under the knife"? Or does it mean being knocked out by anaesthetics? I'm just getting a couple shots of novacaine I believe.

cbloom,

Pretty much 100% sure that local anesthesia is used for root canals, not general.

Yes.
Ibuprofen/aspirin + lots of alcohol = stomach irritation/bleeding.
Tylenol (acetaminophen) + lots of alcohol = liver damage/failure.

I wasn't put under for my root canal, but my dentist is a friend of mine so he could have been purposefuly sadistic to learn me some dental pain so I would not put off going to the dentist for so long.
