And to put the cat among the pigeons, I'm thinking many small forums for 'The Lounges', not a few big ones.

I'm thinking:

Movies
TV
Music
Literature and Writing
Video Games
Arts
Hobbies and Pastimes
Travel and Trip Reports
News
Culture and History
Business (maybe, not sure about this)
Technology + The Future
X-Files (eg aliens, conspiracy theories etc)
Relationships, Sex and Dating (very strictly modded)
Fashion and Style
Food and Drink
Cars, Bikes, Boats etc (stuff with engines)

Oh, this isn't for OOTers. Isn't it clear now that OOT won't die anyway, whatever forums are added? I don't doubt for a second if these forums appeared overnight, there'd be little or no impact on OOT, cos they're not for the OOT-minded.

They can stay in OOT, and be happy there. Let them have their culls and banning contests as a way of singling out and removing posters that don't fit their mold. Fine, leave them to it.

Let's face it, several significant OOT posters of the past have given up with OOT now with current trends there, so isn't it clear that OOT has indeed changed so posters we all liked no longer post there? So what's the problem accomodating them and potential 2+2ers like them?

So...let's make a home for them (actually that is mostly tl:dr now) and for like-minded 2+2ers that either looked in OOT and didn't like it or just wouldn't dig the young, cool and rude vibe in there.

This, I'd suggest, is for the rest of 2+2.

I am honestly asking, because I may have missed something.

It's not my place to point fingers or single out posters - with the current hate-campaign tactics used, I don't wish any posters to be picked on. This has happened once before where I used a respected poster as an example to illustrate a bad trend in OOT, and he was effectively hounded from OOT (and this despicable act was one of the core reasons I resigned from OOT modship). I felt terrible for singling out a poster to use as an example for a point only for them to be driven away from posting high-quality content, so I won't do it again. And this is the main reason I now find the 'bread and circuses' atmosphere being played up and encouraged in OOT appalling.

I mean this sincerely, Meb, I'm not playing games.

Mebenhoe

He's talking about pryor who said he would refuse to post his reviews within an active and existing thread if that was an option.

also Dominic apparently doesn't want to post in OOT anymore, well most of the time

and TT said recently its too immature for him.

and guess what they can all have fun in TQZ which is what is was designed for. oh wait that's no longer good enough now, no now we need an xfiles forum where perhaps we could institute and X0-X3 policy but on X4 then the smoking man kills you.

But by all means DB why don't you take your grand plan and post in ATF so everyone can get a say.

would like to hear what other mods think first. Hmmm, maybe I should post a new thread on it, as this is derailing this one.

DB, you are debating an already decided issue... Mat stated recently that he would like to reach the point where IIRC there could be a high volume automotive forum, etc. There is no need any longer to debate the destination...

More useful discussion would center around determining a process to get there... maybe one that doesn't involve petty drama.

Mat's last word on the Food, Health & Fitness forum was that it would wait until after some changes Ed was workng on. Since that obviously isn't happening anymore... Mat, I think we should just go ahead and create that forum... please.

good point.

I still think the other thread I started is worth running, if only to get some discussion on some of the other forums I suggested, and touch on the issues of accepting that small forums can be beautiful too.
