Default 50NL AJs vs MegaLAG

Villain has been 84/55/3 at the table over 40 hands
I've been playing 22/12 3 so far

Villain's been 3betting preflop all over the place.

$0.25/$0.5 No Limit Holdem
8 players
Converted at weaktight.com

Stacks:
UTG (<font color="#0000cc">$47.40</font>)
UTG+1 (<font color="#0000cc">$19.25</font>)
MP1 (<font color="#0000cc">$8.50</font>)
Hero (<font color="#0000cc">$60.60</font>)
CO (<font color="#0000cc">$42.45</font>)
BTN (<font color="#0000cc">$52.35</font>)
SB (<font color="#0000cc">$10.25</font>)
BB (<font color="#0000cc">$50.00</font>)

Pre-flop: ($0.75, 8 players) Hero is MP2 A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
<font color="#777777">3 folds</font>, <font color="#cc0000">Hero raises to $1.75</font>, <font color="#777777">1 fold</font>, <font color="#cc0000">BTN raises to $4</font>, <font color="#777777">2 folds</font>, <font color="#cc0000">Hero raises to $13</font>, BTN calls $9

I 4bet to try to get him out of the hand and he calls. In retrospect, I should just call this 3bet?

Flop: Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($26.75, 2 players)
<font color="#cc0000">Hero bets $18</font>, <font color="#cc0000">BTN raises to $36</font>, <font color="#777777">Hero folds</font>

I'm not sure how else to play this hand aside from either folding to the 3bet (which sucks) or just calling and b/fing flop?

Final Pot: $62.75

BTN wins $77.75 ( won +$28.75 )
Hero lost -$31.00

All comments welcome. I know these villains aren't that common, but it'd be nice not to be lost against them.

I love these villains, though I don't like taking AJs into them.

Smooth call the 3bet (villain dependent move). Post flop, good flop but not great, I'd really like to see the turn card here. Vs these villains, take stronger hands into them and let them hang themselves.

I agree that 4betting is unnecessary here, call and see the flop, if you hit big you can more often than not still take him to valuetown. Another thing is the CB on the flop: you know I'm a big fan of CBs in pretty much every spot, but you're OOP against someone who's most likely to call (or raise) anyway, so there's not too much sense in betting out here.
BTW: when we think we're ahead of villains range here often enough PF, would anybody vote for taking the variance and pushing PF?
@Rapid: nice job cracking NL50, hope it goes well for you!

Basically top pair becomes the nuts against these opponents. If they are the type to stack with any pair/any draw, you go passive until you hit, and then bet big into them for the rest of the hand.

The worst mistake is to start paying them off when you miss but have AK high or something. Just reload and look to hit again. Because you only need a top pair not overpair or set, you get many more chances.

I was seriously considering shoving preflop, but didn't think high variance was the way to go my first day at cracking 50NL. (Looking back, I think best thing to do was avoid this villain and keep variance to a low until I get settled).

River, I agree totally. Just working things out and getting settled. Villain left 2 hands later when he lost his stack on second pair. lol

BTN has only 5 Bucks left ? If you go that far, push. You might have 8 outs (+1 fot the BDFD).

cold call 3bet and try to see a turn card.

let the aggro donks hang themselves. Take top,top and let them have it.
